What HFT means in hair care

In clinic service lists, HFT commonly refers to high-frequency treatment or therapy. A glass comb-shaped electrode is moved across the scalp while the device delivers a low-current, high-frequency alternating current. The sensation is typically described as mild warmth or tingling.

HFT is not a hair transplant, PRP, GFC or low-level laser therapy. Evidence specific to meaningful hair regrowth is limited, so it should be used only as a supportive scalp procedure within a diagnosis-led plan.

Scalp assessment comes first

Hair fall can result from pattern loss, temporary shedding, deficiency, inflammation, infection or traction. HFT does not diagnose or correct all of these causes. The scalp should be checked for wounds, active infection, marked inflammation and sensitivity before treatment.

What happens during a session

Hair is separated so the glass comb electrode can pass systematically over the scalp at a tolerable setting. The device, electrode integrity and contact technique should be checked before use. Treatment is stopped if there is pain, excessive heat or an unexpected skin reaction.

The session may be combined with other scalp care only when product compatibility and timing are confirmed. More frequent or stronger electrical treatment is not evidence of better hair growth.

Precautions and realistic expectations

Electrical treatment may be unsuitable for people with implanted electrical devices and may require caution with pregnancy, seizure history, impaired sensation or open scalp lesions. Suitability depends on the device instructions and individual medical assessment.

HFT should not delay treatment of sudden patchy loss, scarring, infection or rapidly progressive thinning. Those concerns require dermatologist assessment.
