What the evidence says about IV glutathione
Glutathione is an antioxidant naturally produced in the body. That biological role does not establish that repeated intravenous infusions safely lighten skin. Recent systematic review evidence found very limited IV data and concluded that intravenous glutathione for skin lightening is contraindicated because efficacy is unproven and adverse effects are a concern.
Claims such as permanent whitening, detoxification, immune boosting or treatment of all pigmentation should not be used to justify an infusion. Natural skin colour is not a disease that requires treatment.
Start by identifying the actual concern
Uneven tone may reflect melasma, post-acne marks, sun damage, friction, inflammation, a medicine or another medical condition. These concerns have different treatment pathways. A dermatologist can examine the pattern and discuss options with clearer evidence.
IV treatment carries more than cosmetic risk
Any intravenous procedure can cause infection, vein inflammation, fluid or electrolyte problems and allergic reactions. Product quality, dose, additives, sterility, kidney or liver health and interactions with other treatment also matter. Long-term safety for repeated cosmetic IV glutathione has not been established.
Urgent symptoms such as breathing difficulty, facial swelling, widespread rash, severe weakness or reduced urine output require immediate medical assessment.
Safer diagnosis-led alternatives
Depending on the diagnosis, care may involve sunscreen, topical medication, chemical peels or selected laser treatment. The goal should be management of a defined concern, not pressure to alter a person’s natural complexion.
Questions patients often ask
Does iGlow promise skin whitening with IV glutathione?
No. Current evidence does not support a guarantee of safe or lasting cosmetic skin lightening from IV glutathione.
Is glutathione an antioxidant?
Yes, but its normal role in the body does not prove that cosmetic intravenous infusions are effective or safe.
Why is a consultation needed?
It helps identify whether there is a specific pigmentation disorder and review evidence-based alternatives and medical risk.
Are topical and oral glutathione the same as IV use?
No. Route, dose, evidence and safety differ. Findings for one route cannot be assumed to apply to another.
